Guild Progression

(Burning Crusade) I have redone Guild Progression page. It is in order of

a) Highest progressed kill.

b) First guild to get to the kill if two or more guilds are at the same progression level.

c) A guild may not pass another if they haven't cleared a lesser 25 man dungeon.

DLK and Doomwalker are pretty garbage as far as raid progression is concerned, so they have been left off.

Suggestions

Keeping the table's pattern

Just a reminder to folks to remember to add or remove " class="alt" " when you move your guild up the list, so we maintain the dark/light pattern. It gets messy otherwise. Take a look at how adding that bit of code works before you save edits of the page. Kurnmogh (talk) 09:07, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Progression table headings

How about linking the instance names in the progression column headers to the wiki pages for those instances? For example, I wanted to look up Kara. Clicking on "Kara" should take one to Karazhan. ScratchMonkey 20:19, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Done. --OseTalkz / Contribz 20:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Page Layout

Check out the page for Aerie Peak. As the ET page gets more complex, AP's page might be a good one to emulate. ScratchMonkey 20:27, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't think we want to over complicate our site, people might not use it then. You'll notice that none of their crafting stuff gets used. I think all that matter is people can see how active we are with raiding as well as far progressed other guilds are. --Grieser 22:35, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Consider readers as well as updaters. I see the wiki as static data that evolves slowly, so the crafting lists are useful to me much like ads (who do I go to for stuff?), but I'm not going to be updating them frequently. Do you have access to visitor data that shows the crafting pages not being visited, or just not being updated? (I took the liberty of adding ":" before your comment for threading.) I also think there can be too much on a page, and it helps the readers to move stuff to separate pages for different kinds of wiki consumers. ScratchMonkey 22:47, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm still learning :) But as far as making seperate pages I think that's what we should try to avoid. Aside from the fact crafting lists have become obsolete with how easy patters are to get, our page should be a "quick one stop shop" where all that's needed is a scrolling mousewheel. I just don't think our server has a big (if any) community so anything aside from guild progression is a waste of space (including server first kills imo) That could be moved to another page ;p --Grieser 23:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
My own feeling is that the wiki should be for stuff that doesn't change, at least very often. Even progression is too volatile, but lots of people seem to want it. It's the kind of thing I think is better suited for a rank-tracking service, and the wiki should link to that. But I'm not religious about it. ;) I'd say if you have stuff that changes a lot, put that on a separate page, and put the static stuff on the main page. ScratchMonkey 01:40, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I point to WP:GUILD and WP:WRITE as general guidelines on content. Alas, there's no wiki page setting policy for realm pages. ScratchMonkey 01:49, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
In terms of how "far" a guild has gotten in an instance, for the T5 instances in particular, since the order is up to the guild, should we maybe not do a string of letters representing bosses? For example: H Lu TW FLK Leo V for SSC and AL, VR, HAS for TK? Would that not work better than the current? Kurnmogh 07:29, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
The problem is the table should look sleek...we could maybe add numbers, but I don't think the kill order really matters since it's generally accepted that luker<hydross<tidewalker<leo<kara<vashj. If your guild wants to skip everything and go striaght for vashj, and you kill her, your guild is classified as a vashj guild despite killing any others. It's all about how progressed your guild is, and in the case of SSC - who the toughest boss is you've killed. --Grieser 17:37, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough. But as to guild rank... what should determine that? A boss down in a higher instance vs. a cleared previous instance? For instance... Rage Winterchill down but Vashj and Kael not, vs. a guild with nothing listed in Hyjal, but who has cleared SSC and TK?Kurnmogh

I just noticed that a bot has added a notice to the top of all the server talk pages about the new standardized server template project. Check out the banner at the top of this page. ScratchMonkey 22:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
