Malistar's Defender drops from Ragnaros, the final boss of the Molten Core.
Notes
It makes a great combo with the 
[Aurastone Hammer]. Usually, shamans and paladins have to decide whether they want this combo (1H + shield), or rather the big 2H 
[Hyperthermically Insulated Lava Dredger]. As usual, the combo with 2 items has better stats, but the 2H is easier to obtain and has more DPS.
