Gaming
- Crossfire — [You'll Get Caught Up In The... Frostfire!] pays tribute to the catchy line used in its commercial.
- Diablo
- [Stay Awhile and Listen] is a reference to a gossip line from Deckard Cain.
- [Jewel of Hellfire] is a reference to the soulstones.
- Hearthstone — [Autographed Hearthstone Card], [Hearthstone Strategy Guide], [Hearthstone Board], [Pack of Hearthstone Cards], and [Winning Hand] are references to the game.
- Other
- [Time is a Flat Circle] quoted description references to the usual grinding taking place in most MMOs, including World of Warcraft.
Literature
- A Song of Ice and Fire
- [Coin of Many Faces] is a reference to the Many-Faced God.
- [10-40] A Song of Frost and Fire and [10-40] Game of Thorns are obvious references to the series of fantasy novels and it's TV adaptation.
Movies and television
- Cast Away — Explorer Nozzand is a reference to this movie, even he holds a ball with a face drawn on it he calls "Wibson".
- True Detective — [Time is a Flat Circle] quoted description references to the TV series.
Music
- Justin Timberlake — Justin Timberlord is a reference to the artist.
- Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" — The achievement name, [As I Walk Through the Valley of the Shadow of Moon], is a reference to the song which starts with "As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death". That line is a reference to Psalm 23:4, which starts with "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death" in several translations of the Bible.
People
- Robin Williams — Following the death of comedian and actor Robin Williams, known to have himself been a player of World of Warcraft and Warcraft III, many players asked for an NPC to be created in his honor, with one player even creating a petition on Change.org and gathering nearly 11,000 signatures in just 16 hours.[1] On August 12th, following assurances from CM Celestalon and Williams fan Brian Holinka,[2] the official World of Warcraft twitter account tweets ".@robinwilliams Thank you. You gave us so much joy in our lives, and we hope you enjoyed your time in our world. We’ll see you in-game."[3] The message is widely taken as confirmation of the creation of an in-game tribute.
- Wowhead staff
- [Aryu's Puzzle Ring] is named after Aryu, a Wowhead developer. The flavor text refers to the constant process of datamining and discovering data changes.[4]
- [Ashelia' Adorned Waistguard] is named after Ashelia, who became the site director for Wowhead in 2011.[4]
- [Erorus' Ledger of Trade] is named after Erorus, who developed The Undermine Journal and Realm Pop before starting work at Wowhead in 2013.[4]
- [Jerek's Intractable Barrier] is named after Jerek, a Wowhead developer and designer.[4]
- [Noxiia's Shackles] is named after Noxy, the site artist for Wowhead.[4]

- [15-40] Do the Dew — The quest name is a reference to "Do the Dew," the slogan for the Mountain Dew brand of soda, which is popularly associated with video gaming and previously had even partnered with Blizzard for a promotional campaign featuring exclusive flavors of the soft drink based on World of Warcraft.
- [Between Arak and a Hard Place] — The achievement name is a play on the phrase "between a rock and a hard place".
- [Don't Let the Tala-door Hit You on the Way Out] — The achievement name is a play on the phrase "don't let the door hit you on the way out".
