I have in my possession an advance copy of the novel Stormrage. I was wondering about the spoiler policy on this site, and whether I could add any info from it to the wiki. I could not find anything in the site policies about posting advance content (except DNP, which does not appear to cover the novels/comics/manga) or anything about spoilers at all, but I read a few threads down that some of you usually wait two weeks until after the official release. Others in that same thread have also said that there is no hard and fast rule. I do believe you are right about there being no hard and fast rules. But regardless i would say posting any spoilers prior to release is probably not a good idea. After that then i think it's a bit more open to debate. In the absense of an official policy hidden somewhere i don't know about i think two weeks sounds about right, but it's really up to the administrators.Warthok Talk Contribs 20:33, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

There's a soft rule: It's DNP prior to actual release, between 0 and 2 weeks after it's highly discouraged, and after it's anyone's game. Usually have a notice up for 0-4 weeks, with a change at 2 weeks from "please don't", to "please do, but look lively, because there will be unmarked spoilers". --Sky (t · c · w) 22:45, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

I understand the "not post before release" thing, but I don't understand that 2 weeks wait. WoWWiki is a wiki, it has to inform. If you don't want spoilers, you simply don't read a wiki.

"System"? No offence, but I got several different answers to my question, and one other person also seems to be questioning the spoiler policy (or lack thereof). That hardly seems like you guys have a functional spoiler system in place. With all the different responses this question has gotten, you guys seem like you need to codify a spoiler policy in regards to spoiler content from the novels, because it does not appear you guys are on the same page regarding this subject. Let me answer a few questions and concernsin there that kind of got railroaded:

It's more that we're all reading the same page, but some of us aren't looking at the page from the direction which makes it readable. :) The reason the rule exists is really because of Ragestorm (as Head [former?] Bookkeeper), who, thinkingly out of courtesy, has (and had) asked for people not to post spoilers.

By all means, if you dislike the reasoning or method in general, start a discussion on that. I have more-or-less gone with tradition; that said, I would favor a 0-2 week editnotice that says "Spoilers are on wiki for x book. Read related articles at your own risk", down from a 0-4 week edit notice and a 0-2 week requirement not to add spoilers. My thoughts and such. --Sky (t · c · w) 04:39, February 23, 2010 (UTC)
