Should we make a forum for archiving old topics? There are some topics, like those for events now in the past that really don't need to float around in the active forums. --Gengar orange 22x22.pngBeware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:32 PM PST 21 Aug 2009

A separate forum or just categories to throw them into to get them off the main area? Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:47, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Kirkburn claimed that "Making it possible to archiving threads should be pretty easy to set up..." at Forum:This_is_a_forum_post#Forum_setup_situation, so he likely had a way in mind.--SWM2448 21:51, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it would mean having an archive forum, which we move stuff too. Another option which may be preferable is just to limit the number of threads that appear on the lists. You just add count=x to the forum code. Kirkburn  talk  contr 22:10, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Limiting the number of threads that appears sounds like a bad idea. Some old threads are still good for reference and shouldn't be made difficult to get to. --Gengar orange 22x22.pngBeware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:44 PM PST 26 Aug 2009
True, though that's something having an archive forum wouldn't exactly fix - plus that archive forum itself would get extremely long. (Either way, they'd still be accessible from the category page)
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if you can do a "if in archive don't show in main forum" - if not, then we'd have to lose the forum categorization already present on the topics in order to move them to the archive. Kirkburn  talk  contr 23:19, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
What if topics that are sure to be over an done with for good were protected so only admins can edit them, and the aesthetics of their header changed to an archive message?--SWM2448 04:03, September 28, 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure we need to keep the previous forum categorization beyond something that refers to it at the top of the page. If we were to protect an old forum page, I'd definitely want to see it moved out of the regular categories. --Gengar orange 22x22.pngBeware the sneaky smile! Fandyllic (talk · contr) 8:10 PM PST 28 Sep 2009

How about an addition to the template with a dead parameter that will archive the topic, thus removing it from view, but not removed from existence.

{{Forumheader|WoWWiki general|dead=yes}} would produce:

{{User:Coobra/sandbox0|WoWWiki general|dead=yes|doc=}} And place in the Category:WoWWiki general forum archives. Example can be seen at Forum:Test for the Dead. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 23:09, November 21, 2009 (UTC)
