Just looking at the preview given under 'preferences' for each skin. Some of these observations may be "as intended", and most of them are likely "known bugs". Just thought that since I was going through the list, I should, you know, go through the list.

  • Chick - Left column (views, personal tools, etc) displayed below the page, not to the left of page. It doesn't take a whole lot of crowding to force the "events, News" column below the "content portals, featured article" column.
  • Classic - while the left column is ... on the left, I have to expand the page to widescreen dimensions to have the two content columns side-by-side. As well, the Wowpedia logo does not shrink to fit the column space available.
  • Cologne Blue - Going to stop mentioning the width issue at this point, since it seems consistent. When logged in, there are two pipes between "special pages" and "refresh" at the top. No Wowpedia logo, but it looks like this skin doesn't use it.
  • Dark Vector - allows a narrower page than the others so far; logo limited correctly; no obvious problems to me.
  • Modern - just noticed... is the Featured Article actually *random*? I thought a featured article was... y'know, featured for a reason or something. Not quite as compact as Dark Vector, but were I a fan of black-on-white, I could well use it.
  • Monobook - no obvious flaws. Except for the black-on-white scheme, superior IMO to Dark Vector due to not having popup menu for watch/refresh.
  • Myskin - same flaws as Chick. I'd have to look at them side-by-side to tell the specific differences, though.
  • Nostalgia - has the language list both at top and bottom. Seems to lack a link to "special pages", though it does have "what links here".
  • Simple - Okay, I said I wasn't going to mention it, but this seems exceptional. Very wide page required to display side-by-side columns. Could not get that wide on my standard width monitor.
  • Vector - Okay, an inverted Dark Vector. Same issues as Dark Vector. 'nuf said.

Don't mean to prod whoever is doing skins; but did want to leave this as a checklist.

I think most of the width issues could be resolved by moving from a 1x4 format to a 2x2 format on the "wowpedia content portals" thing. Er... Guys? Having to roll over an image to see what it links to is bad. I didn't realize the three images were anything particular until I rolled over 'em. 'k? Not a skin issue, but a front page issue.

Another width-saving thing might be (on Vector) to reduce the left column width a bit. The width scales with the text (when I scale text up/down in the browser), and the width it uses currently seems driven by/clipped to the logo image.

Last I checked, having an image linked wasn't against any guidelines (and seeing as alt and title text are generated, there isn't an accessibility problem either). I put in the change (removing the actual links); let me know why it's "bad". :3
As for monobook v vector: Yeah, vector makes increasing use of javascript (nothing like monaco!), hence why we need to get a dark monobook up and running, for those poor souls like you :P.
Nostalgia is working as intended, first issue with Chick also working as intended. Myskin is intended for anyone who wants to skin the wiki themselves (like, completely skin it), which also leaves that intended. Yes, FA is random (there's been murmuring's on IRC about making it not-random; go drop a note on WT:FA if you feel strongly about it). --Sky (talk) 02:35, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
Bad, as in I did not recognize the images as links until I moused over them. Having alt text helps, but does not make it recognizable as a link. There ARE images that aren't links to things, you know. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 16:29, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
