I've run across a few items ( [Deepdive Helmet] for example) where the vendor selling the recipe-teaching item is gone, but the recipe lingers on for people who have learned it previously. This leaves the item in a precarious position: nobody new can learn it.

I've been marking the recipe item (and vendor) {{removedwithcataclysm}}, but leaving the created item intact with the note. Have I erred? Do we want to categorize these (created) items in some fashion? Indicate them distinctly on recipe lists? Anything? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 23:51, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

The only category that comes to mind would be Category:Vanity, but that wouldn't be descriptive. Items that can still be created (even though you can't learn to make them anymore) should not be marked as removed from the game. --g0urra[T҂C] 23:58, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Vanity doesn't cover it, since the created items retain the utility they originally had. Perhaps you are considering the class "items that may be desired for their effects", such as the boots with the clicky speed effect, the Kalu'ak fishing pole (underwater breathing), the boots that add to stealth level.

And while I agree that the items that teach the recipe should be marked "removed from play", I disagree that the items created should be similarly marked until said recipes are removed from player's ability to create. We don't currently discriminate items based on whether any given player can make them or not, which it seems would be a result of your recommendation. And Blizzard actually DOES, on occasion, remove the ability to create some items. q.v. particular gem cuts.

Illustrating the ambiguity with a more glaring example,  [Bloodvine Goggles] and probably the entire "zandalar rep" recipe set fall under this situation. While players retain the ability to make the goggles, sources for some of the materials have been removed (with ZG). I didn't say in my reply that the created items should be marked as removed, read it again. If the item can still be created through some means, it should still not be marked as removed from World of Warcraft. --g0urra[T҂C] 07:10, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
