I started changing categories for individual Deathguard articles, like Deathguard Abraham, removing Category:Forsaken. My reasoning was that the article is already in Category:Deathguards, which is itself in the Forsaken category. Thus, having Abraham's article also in the Forsaken category is redundant, and, I thought, against WW:CAT. But I read the policy again and I see this redundancy rule only applies to categories themselves, and not to articles. It's OK for an article to be in a category and in that category's parent category. So, I figured I'd ask for comments before I continue this little project. Any opinions? -- Harveydrone 14:26, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

I've generally followed the rule that an article should not be in both a category, and that category's parent category at the same time. There are exceptions, but they remain... exceptions. In general, I agree with your project. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:01, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
I feel that while deathguard is in the forsaken category, that this falls under the few exceptions where the forsaken category should also be applied to articles about NPCs labeled as deathguards. Any more specific thoughts on why forsaken->deathguards is (or is not) an exceptional case? I should add that part of my reasoning in doing this originally was that the Forsaken category is pretty large, and removing it where redundant would help navigation. But I could see that perhaps it adds clarity to use both categories, if most people aren't aware that Deathguards are a subset of Forsaken. -- Harveydrone 15:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
