I started changing categories for individual Deathguard articles, like Deathguard Abraham, removing Category:Forsaken. My reasoning was that the article is already in Category:Deathguards, which is itself in the Forsaken category. Thus, having Abraham's article also in the Forsaken category is redundant, and, I thought, against WW:CAT. But I read the policy again and I see this redundancy rule only applies to categories themselves, and not to articles. It's OK for an article to be in a category and in that category's parent category. So, I figured I'd ask for comments before I continue this little project. Any opinions? -- Harveydrone 14:26, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- I've generally followed the rule that an article should not be in both a category, and that category's parent category at the same time. There are exceptions, but they remain... exceptions. In general, I agree with your project. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 20:01, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Any more specific thoughts on why forsaken->deathguards is (or is not) an exceptional case? I should add that part of my reasoning in doing this originally was that the Forsaken category is pretty large, and removing it where redundant would help navigation. But I could see that perhaps it adds clarity to use both categories, if most people aren't aware that Deathguards are a subset of Forsaken. -- Harveydrone 15:21, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
