Summary
Satyr. Artwork by Samwise Didier.
This piece appears on page 71 of The Art of Blizzard Entertainment with the following commentary:
- "This satyr picture really just said everything. It was part of conceptualizing Warcraft III. We'd sit for inordinate amounts of time and try and think about the opportuntiy to expand the world since Warcraft II and really develop other races and cultures we wanted to use—archetypal races and cultures we found growing up playing all these fantasy games that we had devoured as kids. But how do we make them relevant to this emergent world that we're building? And so making the satyrs a corrupted version of the night elves, that was really cool, with the big long ears. Certain components of the night elf body. It warped demonically. Like the cloven hoofs, but it's just a perfect fusion, you know. And it fit perfectly into the kit that we were building at the time." —Chris Metzen
- "Normally satyrs are little puffy forest guys with pan flutes, and we just made him a demonic goatman." —Samwise Didier
