Summary
Warcraft III concept art for Grommash Hellscream. Artwork by Chris Metzen.
"The Death of Hellscream" appeared on page 26 of The Art of Blizzard Entertainment with the following commentary:
- "In trying to portray the orcs more as noble creatures with feelings, we came up with these two characters that would go through an experience where one of them would die. With this image, I remember it crystallizing for me who these guys were and thinking, 'Wow. Who's Thrall going to be after this?' It was an inside look at how we can be telling stories just through art without words." —Nick Carpenter
The left half of this image appeared on page 40 of The Art of Blizzard Entertainment with the following commenatary:
- Nick: Metzen, normally he'd never draw an orthographic.
- Samwise: Not a lot of black on that image.
- Nick: But we were changing the way we were doing things. We were gonna have to interpret these drawings. So, I'm over there going, "Can you just draw them flat so I can see what the hell he looks like?"
- Chris M.: "What the hell is his costume?"
- Nick: Yeah. "Is that blood on his chin or...?"
