Summary

Day of the Dragon. Artwork by Samwise Didier.

This piece appears on page 58 of The Art of Blizzard Entertainment with the following commentary:

"This is the cover for the first book we ever put out. Finally getting to see a look of adventurers in Warcraft. It wasn't a story necessarily about the armies that we had built the franchise around. It was just a couple people hanging out, a dwarf, an elf, a human. This was one of those seminal images where you just start going, 'Huh.' Where you can see that it's a world made up of individuals that come from very exotic and different places. Like her leather armor versus his tattered wizard robes. And I always particularly loved the silhouetted vision of Deathwing—this is one of the most effective dragon images we ever did, and it's an eighth of the level of detail that we usually chase. But it always struck me harder." —Chris Metzen
