A dwarven boomstick, as seen in Warcraft

Boomsticks are guns, created by the dwarves of Ironforge. All boomsticks depicted so far have been pistol-type firearms, although larger models may exist. Current models appear to be single-shot, needing to be reloaded after each firing.

History

Invented by the dwarves around the time of the opening of the Great Gate, the boomsticks seem to represent a significant leap in technology, surprising those who have not seen them before. Magni Bronzebeard gives one as a gift to Anduin Lothar, who later uses it in combat against Blackhand, destroying his left hand.

Boomsticks are later supplied in larger numbers to the army of Stormwind, where they are used to great effect in the battle for the Great Gate.

Notes

  • The exact significance of the term boomstick is uncertain. The advent of boomsticks suggests the technology to be exciting and new in some way; Lothar certainly has never seen such a device before then. However, in Warcraft: The Official Movie Novelization a reference is made to dwarven rifles, suggesting that other firearms do already exist.[1]
