Any study of Henbestian logic must take into account two foundational disciplines.
The first is the understanding of sentenial connectives which invite the student to consider the ways that propositions are joined and modified by logical operators, such as "if" or "not".
The second is the understanding of symbolic language that is internally referential and based upon shared experience. The word "yellow" to a student of Henbestian logic may refer to a particular hue, but may also relate to the concept of secrecy. The key to the interpretation relies upon context.

- "Henbest" may be a reference to the notable astronomer Nigel Henbest, while the use of symbolic language of lowers was popularized in Europe (and the varied colonies colonies) particularly by the books Dictionnaire de language des fleurs (1809) by Joseph Hammer-Purgstall Le language des Fleurs (1819) by Louise Cortambert under the pen name Madame Charlotte de la Tour.
