Duel to the Death

The Duel to the Death feature is unique to the World of Warcraft: Classic Hardcore and replaces the regular duel system since death is a permanent part of these realms. Challenging a player with this feature is equivalent to the orcish custom, "Mak'gora".

To initiate this feature, right-click on the player's portrait and request the Duel to the Death from the menu or select the target and type /makgora in the chat. Before commencing combat, both parties will have to agree to an acknowledgment warning window.

The String of Ears buff

Players that come out victorious in a Duel to the Death will receive a new permanent String of Ears buff that increases by 1 with each new victory.

Limitations

  • The Strings of Ears buff cannot be earned prior to level 10 and cannot be earned if both players in a duel are too many levels apart.

Patch changes

  • WoW Icon update.png Hotfix (2023-09-06): The String of Ears buff earned for Mak'gora kills now persists through death.
Developers' notes: This will allow the new Classic API to report the correct Mak'gora kill count for deceased characters.
