This article contains lore taken from Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, the manuals, and/or official bonus maps.

The brave dwarven Riflemen have faithfully protected their mountain kingdom of Khaz Modan for hundreds of years. Yet, as new threats arose to threaten their hard-won freedom, they offered their expert skills and tenacity to the Alliance. Using the legendary single-shot Blunderbuss Long Rifles, riflemen are excellent marksmen and can shoot both land based and airborne opponents.

Information

The Rifleman is a ground ranged unit that works especially well in team battles due to their fairly decent stats and relatively cheap cost. Compared to the higher damage from Troll Headhunters and Crypt Fiends, Riflemen possess just slightly lower health than Crypt Fiends, and their attack is instant-based; meaning the projectile does not need to travel to hit enemies, whereas the slow arc of a projectile can give an enemy unit or hero enough time to survive.

In order to train Riflemen, a Blacksmith must be built. Riflemen are extremely effective against Light and Unarmored units due to the bonus damage they inflict on them. Riflemen work especially well with a Paladin because he can both heal and provide them with a defensive aura to prolong their survival, or with a Mountain King to target specific units.

Riflemen possess Normal Armor, so if they are being attacked by a unit with Normal damage, immediately move them away until the enemy stops trying to attack them.

If planning to use Riflemen for the majority of your game, research Long Rifles to give the Riflemen more range to their attacks.
