The Mote of Darkness is dark energy used for the purchase of one item, the  [Crystalline Geode]. The geode is sold by Dasnurimi in Dragon Soul.

Sources

This item is given to all players in the Dragon Soul when a boss is killed, normal and heroic modes only. It does not drop in Raid Finder mode.
