Quotes

The felhunter does not speak as it is just a demonic dog; as such the only noises it makes when ordered to do something are various forms of growling.

Notes

Prior to patch 10.1.5, the Felhunter spell could be replaced with [Summon Observer] through the  [Glyph of the Observer], allowing the warlock to have an observer as a demon instead. Functionally similar, the two were ultimately decided to be separated rather than kept together as many of the other demons were with their 'upgraded' counterparts. This was justified by Blizzard by stating they wished for the demons to keep roughly the same 'silohuette' as each other between their appearances, and the observer was dramatically different than the felhunter.[1] The observer later made a return as part of the customization options added to the temporary [Summon Darkglare] spell.

To make up for the lack of the observer, two new 'Dreadhound' felhunter models were also added to the felhunter, taking inspiration from the Felhounds of Sargeras.

In the RPG

Icon-RPG.png This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

Felhunters are fel stalkers that have been specially trained by the Burning Legion to hunt, counter, and devour mortal spellcasters.

The most intelligent of fel stalkers are selected and trained specially to hunt spellcasters. They look much like a normal fel stalker, except for a golden band placed around one of their horns marking them as hunters. Normal fel stalkers prefer spellcasters, but fel hunters are so well-trained that they ignore melee opponents entirely in favor of spellcasters, especially arcane casters. A fel hunter has the same abilities as a fel stalker. It also manifests demonic spell-like abilities - brought out due to its higher intelligence, coupled with the intense training it undergoes to become an elite spellcaster killing machine.[2]

Trivia

Felhunter concept art.
  • Despite being named the 'felhunter', the actual name of the demon is felhound. It is the only summonable demon that does not use the actual name of its race, instead a moniker.
  • When in water, the felhunter swims similarly to a shark using its tail.
  • The felhunter unmistakably resembles a Zergling from Starcraft, Warcraft's sister series.
  • The felhunter is often called a "fel puppy" by some players.
  • In the quest N Warlock [35] An Unusual Tome, the warlock can ask the felhunter for information, but it only reacts much like your dog might to a command it doesn't understand.
  • The digestive tract of felhunters is unable to digest teeth.[3]
