These quests become available after completing [15-30] Ever Watching From Above. Prior to Cataclysm, they instead required [53] Making Sense of It.

Examined
A closer inspection of the pylon leads you to find a small table containing red, blue, and green crystals arranged in what seems like a specific formation.
A large red circle of crystals is flanked on either side by a smaller circle of blue crystals and another of green crystals.
You carefully take note of the colours of the crystals, knowing that J. D. would be very interested in hearing about what you have found.
J.D. explains
The Western Pylon accepts red, green and blue crystals.
The Pylon focuses on the energy that can be created using red crystals as the main source of power. There are two possible effects: one that increases your protection from damage, and one that weakens an enemy's defenses.
[Crystal Ward] requires red and green crystals. This will provide you with an increase to armor.
[Crystal Yield] requires blue and red crystals. This can lower the armor of a specific target.

Notes
- This pylon emphasizes
[Red Power Crystal]s, with both of its quests requiring 8 of them. Both of its rewards also affect armor. - Characters who had "unlocked" the Pylons prior to Cataclysm must still unlock them again to use them after the zone changes.
