Valorstones are used alongside seasonal crests to upgrade gear of all types from The War Within seasons. Valorstones come from looting outdoor treasures, quests, weekly events, dungeons, raids, and PvP.

All quality colors used in this article line up with crest levels, as shown in the Upgrade tracks table, rather than the normal item quality.

Upgrade tracks

Upgradeable gear will only ever be created in the rank 1–4 band of an upgrade track. So, an item level 584 piece that drops will always be Veteran 1/8, never Adventurer 5/8. Gear can be upgraded to the max of the upgrade track that it's on.

Valorstones have no weekly cap, so they can be ground out indefinitely up to the overall holding cap.

Upgrades that require crests need 15 of the listed crest for that item level. Should players attempt to upgrade a lower item level piece in a slot that they already have a higher item level in, no crests will be required. For example, players who have looted or upgraded to an item level 597 helm will see helms of all lower item levels cost no crests and 50% of the Valorstones. The valorstone discount (but not the crest discount) is account-wide. For rings, trinkets, and one-handed weapons, since two of each can be equipped, the lower item level piece determines the discount limit.

Loot and crest sources

Normal dungeons, timewalking dungeons, and (non-bountiful) normal delves drop ilvl 554 gear that is not on the upgrade track. Bountiful delves require a [Restored Coffer Key] from world content. Rare Nerub-ar Palace raid loot drops from Sikran, Rasha'nan, Ky'veza, and Ansurek and will be rank 2 on the next higher upgrade track. Bosses 7 and 8 in all non-Mythic raid difficulties drop both types of crests.

Crafting

Crafted gear can be made with or upgraded with enchanted crests to boost their item level. An Enchanted Weathered Harbinger Crest costs 30x [Weathered Harbinger Crest] and can only be used on rare-quality crafted gear. An  [Enchanted Runed Harbinger Crest] costs 45x [Runed Harbinger Crest], and an Enchanted Gilded Harbinger Crest costs 90x [Runed Harbinger Crest]. Runed and gilded crests are used to increase the item level of epic-quality gear that is crafted with a  [Spark of Omens].
