Thaedris Feathersong is a nightfallen who entered First Arcanist Thalyssra's service after the liberation of Suramar and joined the stewards of her household.[1]
History
Prior to the War of the Ancients, Thaedris was a night elf married to Latara, one of the Sentinels. At some point, Latara died and was buried at Tel'anor, and though her memorial was not as grand or famous as the others in the graveyard, it holds special importance for him. He would often visit the tomb of General Startalon at Tel'anor to meditate for guidance[2] and watch the caretakers perform their rituals and venerate the dead.[3] After the Great Sundering, he spent the next 10,000 years stuck inside Suramar City, transforming into a Nightborne.
Legion
By the time of the third invasion of the Burning Legion in 32 ADP, Thaedris believed or came to believe that as a people, it was their sacred responsibility to protect the world as heroes and guardians, like those interred at Tel'anor, which they abandoned to "hide like cowards" beneath the shield. Ashamed of what they had done, he became depressed. The last straw was when Grand Magistrix Elisande and the council struck a dark bargain to become allies with the Burning Legion.[4] Considering the city to be lost and unable to call it home any longer, he left and ended up at Tel'anor.
Nevertheless, he was fully aware of what being without the Nightwell would do, but he felt that there was no place for him anymore. Unable to go back, and unwilling to be resigned to a mindless existence without release or dignity as a withered, he began searching for a "third option."[4] It was at this point that he met the adventurer.
The depressed nightfallen offered to pay for assistance with making a potion, for which he needed difficult ingredients.[5][6] Although he did not say it outright, the adventurer came to realize that the potion was actually a lethal poison that Thaedris intended to commit suicide with, so he could be with his wife. The adventurer tried to dissuade him by telling him about First Arcanist Thalyssra's refuge at Shal'Aran and the search for a cure for withering, but he would not be swayed.[7]
With the potion complete, Thaedris asked for help in finding his wife's missing bow. It turned out that Latara had risen as a banshee and taken it herself. After the adventurer put her down and reported back, Thaedris admitted what the potion really was and realized that he must live and do what he can to prevent the spirits from rising again.[8] With a new purpose, he resolved to help the adventurer save Suramar City and atone for the Nightborne's sins. Only then would he be worthy of joining his wife one day.[9]
Exploring Azeroth
In the years following Suramar's liberation, Thaedris entered First Arcanist Thalyssra's service, primarily for his quickness to the point. Sometime after Amirdrassil's bloom in 42 ADP, when Thalyssra and her husband Lor'themar Theron determined to traverse the Broken Isles and beyond for a honeymooning spot, Thaedris was instructed to insulate the first arcanist from state matters (save those of critical import) for the duration of the trip.[10]

Gossip
- First encounter
Who are you? Why does a <race> come here?
This place is not meant for strangers. It is... was... a sacred place for my people. Or what my people once were.
- The Lost Advisor, An Ancient Recipe
Look at the city, <race>. It is beautiful, and it is tragic.
We were cowards to hide beneath that shield. Azeroth was in our care, and we chose to abandon her. We failed our sacred duty to protect the world, and our shame is too great.
- First memorial
This is where we remember General Startalon, one of the finest generals our people has ever known. He commanded the Hippogryph riders during the War of the Ancients.
I used to visit his tomb often to meditate for guidance. I wonder if I will see him.
- Second memorial
This memorial is not as grand or famous as the others here, but it holds special importance for me. Within lies Lady Latara, a consummate huntress and my wife. Oh, how I miss her.
Notes and trivia
- He was never specifically shown becoming a nightborne again, but the character was revisited in Exploring Azeroth: Islands and Isles, in which Thalyssra claimed the entire nightborne race had eaten of the arcan'dor in the years between Legion and Dragonflight. As one of Thalyssra's personal stewards, his restoration can be inferred.
- Although he moves to Shal'Aran, he is not tagged with The Nightfallen faction, but it is very likely that he becomes a member.
- Thaedris is voiced by Jason Miller.[11]
