Paladins

I don't agree that paladins aren't casters. End-game paladins almost exclusively heal, buff and decurse and aren't different from a priest or druid in that respect. --Zootsko 22:33, 10 April 2006 (EDT)

If you think of a dictionary defintion of caster i.e. one who casts (spells), then a Paladin would of course be included. However, I think most people use caster as a synonym for nuker. If someone said, "Looking for caster for Strat" they are likely only looking for Mages and Warlocks. Perhaps a more complete description on this page would be something like:
  • Typically used to denote classes who use ranged spells as primary DPS...
  • Occassionally used as a synonym for 'cloth wearer'...
  • Rarely used to refer to any class with a mana bar...
I do think that specifically saying that Paladins aren't casters seems to imply that all other classes than can cast spells are casters, which I don't think is the most common use of the term. --Ralthor 23:02, 10 April 2006 (EDT)
I think you're right that the meaning of this term depends a lot on the context. In big raids, i.e. in Molten Core etc., I think 'casters' mostly refer to all ranged classes (maybe except hunters) because very often these players will have different orders (with regards to positioning etc.) and requirements (since they depend on mana) than melee classes. I rewrote the article btw, what do you think of the wording? --Zootsko 23:28, 10 April 2006 (EDT)
Much better, I basically added a summary of our discussion here to the page.--Ralthor 09:34, 11 April 2006 (EDT)
Nice. I formalized the whole deal a bit to make it slightly more 'encyclopedia-like'. --Zootsko 16:59, 11 April 2006 (EDT)
