Roland Meadows was a human foot soldier. He and Jeremiah Pall were part of a division led by Captain Whitney that fought against orcs. Whitney was a cruel man who punished his men harshly for the slightest fault and forced them to sing his praise. Roland had to lie to his own son Abel, writing him a letter that claimed Whitney was a hero who bravely fought many orcs at once.

One day, Roland decided he had enough and spoke up against Whitney, threatening to expose him. Whitney slit his throat in response and smiled as he died.
