Optional crafting reagents allow players to customize crafted gear by modifying its item level, secondary stats, or applying special effects. These reagents are not required for crafting but provide additional flexibility.

The slot names cover a certain type of optional reagent. This article lists the different types and their relevant items.

Optional Reagent Slot

This slot covers the majority of recipes from the Classic proficiency up to the Battle for Azeroth proficiency. These items increase the item level and the required level of the crafted item to use it.

Add Progenitor Enhancement

Shadowlands This section concerns content related to Shadowlands.

This slot is only used by some recipes under the Shadowlands proficiency.

Alchemical Catalyst

Dragonflight This section concerns content related to Dragonflight.

This slot is only used by some Alchemy recipes under the Dragon Isles proficiency.

Amplify Secondary Stat

This slot is only used by some Engineering recipes under the Dragon Isles proficiency and Khaz Algar proficiency.

Augment Beyond

Burnished Essence

This section is only used by Leatherworking recipes under the Draenor proficiency.

Competitor's Heraldry

The War Within This section concerns content related to The War Within.

This slot is The War Within optional reagents for PvP. It adds a property to the item which scales up the item level to the number specified. The reagents only last for a PvP season. They become irrelevant with the next season as it further increases the item level scaling on the new reagents.

Additionally, multiple of these reagents are needed to craft the item with it, with the amount varying base on the slot.

Customize Crafting Stat

This slot is only used for recipes that involve crafting a profession tool for crafting professions. It guarantees the listed stat will be on the crafted tool.

Customize Gathering Stat

This slot is only used for recipes that involve crafting a profession tool for gathering professions. It guarantees the listed stat will be on the crafted tool.

Customize Secondary Stats

This slot is only used for recipes that involve crafting a equipment which guarantees two listed stats on the item.

Darkmoon Sigil

Dragonflight This section concerns content related to Dragonflight.

This slot is only used when crafting Darkmoon Deck Box trinkets in the Dragon Isles proficiency.

Empower

The War Within This section concerns content related to The War Within.

This slot covers recipes in the Khaz Algar proficiency. All the items set a specified item level, soulbound and set a required level to 80.

Empower with Training Matrix

Dragonflight This section concerns content related to Dragonflight.

This slot covers recipes in the Dragon Isles proficiency. All the items set a specified item level, soulbound and set a required level to 70.

Grant PvP Item Level

Dragonflight This section concerns content related to Dragonflight.

This slot is the Dragonflight optional reagents for PvP. It adds a property to the item which scales up the item level to the number specified. The reagents only last for a PvP season. They become irrelevant with the next season as it further increases the item level scaling on the new reagents.

These reagents had to be used along with Sparks. Additionally, the type of reagent are tied to specific slots.

This slot is only used for crafting gear that are crafted with a Spark in the Dragon Isles proficiency and Khaz Algar proficiency.

This slot is only used by Engineering recipes under the Draenor proficiency.
