Mites worship the salamanders. They hold annual hunts of the salamanders as a rite of passage. The goal of these hunts is not to slay the beast, but instead survive the encounter.[1]
The mites are fully described in Appendix Three of Manual of Monsters, however, the validity of the source is disputed.
