Map Pin on the world map.

The Map Pin helps players mark specific points on their world map and share them with others through chat. It's useful for identifying quest locations, rare spawn spots, or gathering nodes. Players can click the Map Pin button on the map or control-click to set a pin anywhere on the map, which can then be shared as a clickable link in chat for easy navigation by shift-clicking it into chat. Pins can be removed by control-clicking them to keep the map clean.

In addition to the placing the pin, a pin can be clicked to focus similar to clicking a quest icon to focus it. A focused pin will then show on the HUD as a navigational marker and point to its general location or even the location for an objective, while facing it will also provide the distance from it. AddOns can also make use of the map pin itself and place pins by request.

Notes and trivia

  • Unlike quest objectives, a player placed Map Pin will always place it at the same alleviation of the player. For example, placing a map pin while skyriding will place that pin at the same height the player was at the time.
  • Before this feature, players would use AddOns like TomTom to help navigate through the world of Azeroth.
  • AddOns, like "Map Pin Enhanced", take the functionality further by enabling features such as tracking multiple pins and organizing pins more effectively.
