Incognitro, the Indecipherable Felcycle

The Keys to Incognitro, the Indecipherable Felcycle teaches Incognitro, the Indecipherable Felcycle, a deathcycle mount. It is acquired by solving a lengthy series of Secrets of Azeroth puzzles, using the standard tools for those: the toys  [Torch of Pyrreth],  [Tricked-Out Thinking Cap], and  [Idol of Ohn'ahra], along with a new tool, the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles]. While riding Incognitro, the spell [Override Sequence] is added to the spellbook. Currently-known inputs yield nothing more than easter eggs, but the spell may be used to unlock additional functionality for the mount or interact with new secrets in the future.

Incognitro's source in the Mount Journal is listed as "WoW's 20th Anniversary?", and hints leading towards its location were found during the Guest Relations quest chain. The bike was found inside a new scenario, titled Ratts' Revenge. Access to the scenario requires the  [Peculiar Key], which itself requires the <Detective> title. After acquiring the Key, using the Torch of Pyrreth near the entrance to the Karazhan Catacombs in Deadwind Pass at [47.0, 69.0] will reveal an instance portal. Solving the ninth of a series of puzzles inside awards the mount, as well as the feat of strength,  [Ratts' Revenge].

Progress in solving these puzzles is per-character, rather than Warband-wide. The puzzle sequence is not time-limited and can be started or completed after the 20th Anniversary event ends.

On 12 December 2024, the final puzzle leading to the mount was solved, and the "Felcycle secret" is complete.[1] However, the framing of the scenario suggests at least three further puzzles, which remain unidentified and unsolved, and may not be fully playable until a later date.

Mount Journal

This demonic machine was designed by Chief Engineer Ulzik as an experiment in cross-dimensional traversal. Despite many deaths during testing, Ulzik remained confident that this vehicle would reveal secrets of the universe previously unknowable.

Prerequisites

Peculiar Key

To gain access to the scenario, players must form the  [Peculiar Key] by combining the  [Inert Peculiar Key] and  [Peculiar Gem]. While carrying the Key, use the  [Torch of Pyrreth] (from Secrets of Azeroth) at [47.0, 69.0] on the east side of the Karazhan tower in Deadwind Pass to reveal a red instance portal.

The  [Inert Peculiar Key] can be found at [44.5, 8.0], in a tree stump at Marshal's Refuge in Un'Goro Crater, by using the  [Torch of Pyrreth]. The  [Peculiar Gem] is found at the end of N [30-80] Ratts' Race, which starts from a Dalaran Survivor at [55.0, 29.0] in the Stoneshaper's Atrium of Dornogal. The player must use the <Detective> title, earned from  [Azeroth's Greatest Detective] to see the quest. The quests and crates for the Detective title require a minimum character level of 30. Additionally, the title is permanently earnable outside of WoW's Anniversary by turning in all 11 Celebration Crates to Alyx in Dornogal.

Additional requirements

The player must have an active subscription with The War Within account level and access to the following, mostly listed in order of requirement. Lines with "(Shared)" can be completed by other nearby players and will share credit:

Solution summary and future leads

Felcycle room and orbs

As of 12 December 2024, the puzzles to light nine of the pillars in the Felcycle room are solved, Incognitro is awarded from the ninth puzzle, and the remaining three pillars are crowned with balls of void. According to the developer, the final code could be interpreted as "TTFN", that is, "ta-ta for now", which may imply that further pursuit of Ratts may await a later patch.

In general, each pillar needs to be solved in order. Completing the steps in order sometimes directly leads to a future step, or provides a needed item, or silently triggers changes elsewhere that provide hints that did not exist prior to completing that step.

  1. The 1 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Acquire three stacks of The Light of Love by using the Torch of Pyrreth at the Humble Monument in Northern Barrens, Olgra in Nagrand on Draenor (either at Silence Pond or Riverside Post, depending on quest completion), and Decimator Olgra in Maldraxxus.
  2. The 2 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Acquire the  [Key of Shadows] by being within 10 yards of a player who /prays to the Ny'alotha Obelisk at [83.8, 27.6] in the Battle for Azeroth phase of Vale of Eternal Blossoms. The emoting player must have  [Twitching Eyeball],  [All-Seeing Eyes], or  [Gift of N'Zoth], and summon a  [Perky Pug] with either of the  ["Yipp-Saron" Costume] or  ["Dogg-Saron" Costume] applied.
  3. The 3 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Acquire at least five lucky items, then return to Ratts' Revenge with the Key of Shadows. The Key unlocks a chest containing  [Starry-Eyed Goggles], which reveal numerous additional hints and Decryption Consoles within the scenario. Entering appropriate codes into the Consoles yields a total of nine Pieces of Hate.
  4. The 4 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Interact with four pieces of hidden graffiti on the floor of Uther's Tomb in the Western Plaguelands. The graffiti is only visible while a Doomguard is present and alive. A  [Scroll of Fel Binding] can be used to summon the demon, rather than relying on a warlock.
  5. The 5 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Defeat Jeremy "Muffinus" Feasel in a pet battle while using a team built entirely of secret pets to unlock the quest N [10-80] Master of Secrets and acquire the  [Golden Muffin]. If the Darkmoon Faire is not active, Jeremy can also be found in the spirit realm on the Timeless Isle while escorting the rare spawn Zarhym. Use the Muffin and Pieces of Hate to purchase the  [Relic of Crystal Connections] from the Pointless Treasure Salesman.
  6. The 6 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Use the  [Torch of Pyrreth] to connect to each of five Altars of Acquisition in the uninstanced version of Zul'Gurub in Northern Stranglethorn, while any player connected in that manner demonstrates their acquisition of relevant collectibles. After matching all five, the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles] reveal a chest nearby containing  [Ancient Shaman Blood].
  7. The 7 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Acquire a  [Fledgling Warden Owl], then expose it to each of the four combat effects provided by the Warden Statues on the Isle of the Watchers, so that it receives a permanent, blue-white ball of light over its head. Complete the Vault of the Wardens (on any difficulty) and bring  [Elune's Light] from the final boss platform back towards the entrance of the dungeon. With that buff, and the buffed Warden Owl summoned, a  [Sentry Statue] can be picked up in a newly-opened side room before the first boss. Bring the statue to Glazer's room and place it above the stairs to start a statue-swapping puzzle, which reveals a chest containing  [Warden's Mirror] once solved.
  8. The 8 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Return to Ratts' Revenge, and insert the  [Ancient Shaman Blood] and  [Warden's Mirror] to start the broken Enigma Machine, then choose the "BEGIN" dialog option. Afterwards, choose "START" to spawn several rats, and apply modulo arithmetic to the number of rats spawned to determine an appropriate number of statutes to drag to each of the seven pressure plates on the floor. (One pressure plate can only be reached using the  [Relic of Crystal Connections].) Repeat this process twice more by selecting "START", clearing the previous pressure plates, and counting the number of newly spawned rats; killing each rat as it is found can reduce confusion. Progress will provide an emote when "START" is chosen, and errors will zap the player and reset the entire pressure plate sequence.
  9. The 9 o'clock pillar is completely solved. Return to the cave in Azj-Kahet where Ratts was first confronted, use the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles] to reveal a platform near the ceiling, use the  [Relic of Crystal Connections] to teleport onto it, and enter the code 84847078 on the Decryption Console there. This unlocks the adjacent chest, which contains Incognitro.
  10. The principal developer has stated that the puzzle is currently complete at this point.
  11. Some progress may have been made on the 10 o'clock pillar. By repeatedly clicking a red button in a previous room in Ratts' Revenge, up to two sub-lights can be created at this pillar. Extremely dedicated testing has proven that no further sub-lights can be lit by this method. Additionally, a message from a developer in Discord states that there will be an easier solution at a later point in the puzzle chain. No explanation is known for this method working at all.
  12. No visible progress has been made on the 11 o'clock pillar.
  13. No visible progress has been made on the 12 o'clock pillar.

Felcycle room orbs

There are 12 pillars surrounding the felcycle in room #8. Each orb has its own secret to place a big orb on top of it. The "names" for the pillars were chosen by the community, and are not derived from any clue or direct information from Blizzard employees. Starting from the 12 o'clock position (northernmost), the orbs are:

1 o'clock: Love

1 o'clock orb lit

The Lovingly Handcrafted Clue (SGHO EIUII ABD MOO NK GHN, EDNY, DL LLSE) in the southwest connector room led to this solution. It was originally solved in Chinese, and backward translated to "Undying orc love lights up body, mind, and soul".

For the actual solution, Ratts' Journal, Pages 92-93 says that her puzzles are "incomplete" and "unsolvable". As the whole point of this endeavor is to find Ratts, add her name to solve the anagram as "OLGRA SEEKS THE LIGHT IN MIND, BODY, AND SOUL." Solving this massive anagram is also an impossible ask (it's huge), so the intent is that puzzle solvers were always going to "cheat", proving Ratts' point. The Chinese localizers did not remove "Ratts", which shortcut the solution. The English solution was confirmed on 30 November at 8:44 AM PST.

Use the  [Torch of Pyrreth] near three characters and locations close to Olgra to gain a stack of The Light of Their Love:

Inv achievement dungeon darkflamecleft.png The Light of Their Love — True love sees the truth. 3 hour duration

These can be completed in any order:

Players solved this clue around 23:30 PST on 19 November after remembering that the three Olgra targets were found much earlier in Guest Relations. After gaining three stacks (which completes tracking quest #84676), return to the felcycle room to see that the 1 o'clock orb has been lit, but the visit is not necessary. Use this macro to check:

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(84676))

However, returning does show that the Crumpled Notes in the north connecting hallway have been updated while players are buffed with The Light of Their Love:

Unbuffed
When gods of mantids pierce the Veil
<The rest of the note has been angrily scribbled out.>
Buffed
When gods of mantids pierce the Veil:
stand high above the glowing Tail
and pray with gifts of gods imbued
that they may claim your puppy too.

This is the clue for the 2 o'clock orb.

2 o'clock: Pray

2 o'clock orb lit

The new Crumpled Notes point to the Old Gods. In Mists of Pandaria, where the mantid are a constant threat, one of the Battle for Azeroth Old Gods invasions was in Pandaria. Lorewalker Cho spins his tales at the Seat of Knowledge in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Head to [83.8, 27.6] atop the Seat of Knowledge in the Battle for Azeroth phase of Vale of Eternal Blossoms to find a small Ny'alotha Obelisk. Speak with Zidormi at [81.0, 29.6] to change phases if necessary. If she is not present, work on the Black Empire Campaign as part of the greater Battle for Azeroth campaign to unlock the assault phase.

In the BfA phase, bring out the  [Perky Pug], equip the  ["Yipp-Saron" Costume] (from Hallow's End) or  ["Dogg-Saron" Costume] (from Vashti the Wandering Merchant for 25,000g) on it, then use the  [Twitching Eyeball] or  [All-Seeing Eyes] toys or wear the  [Gift of N'Zoth], target the Ny'alotha Obelisk, and /pray. After a while, the  [Key of Shadows] will get pushed out. If any one player completes all steps correctly, all players within 10 yards in both phases of the Vale will also get the key. This completes tracking quest 84677.

Return to the felcycle room in the scenario to see that the second orb has lit up. The key unlocks new rooms required for the 3 o'clock orb.

3 o'clock: Hate

3 o'clock orb lit

To start, use the  [Key of Shadows] from the 2 o'clock orb to unlock the Chamber Door in room #3 (southwest connector) leading south to room #4, the moonkin room. Open it up, and fish in the Astral Soup fish bowl to pick up some  [Wisp Dust], then the  [Astral Key]. Use the key on the Astral Chest to pick up the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles]. After a hotfix on 26 November, the goggles were made a toy. Equip the goggles and start entering codes into Decryption Consoles that are now visible. Each correct entry will unlock the chest near it, which contains a  [Piece of Hate]. Nine pieces are required to light up the orb. They are also required for the  [Relic of Crystal Connections], covered in the 5 o'clock: Muffin section below.

Interact with consoles to display a row of numbers on the action bar. If the action bars don't change to show a series of numbers, disable addons that modify the action bar, or open the spellbook, go to the general tab, click on Number Sequences, and drag all options to a visible action bar, as they will be needed for all consoles.

Inputting incorrect numbers will either damage the player or give an easter egg response (for common numbers like 42, 12345, etc etc): INPUT ERROR 418: Nice try. This is a reference to HTTP 418, an April Fools' joke error code.

Use this macro to track which Pieces of Hate have been looted, in order of the table below:

/run local s,t={"Violence","Here#1","Here#2","Ko'nani","Room 430","Ruben","Handwritten","Slots","Hear"},{71,69,68,57,58,66,72,86,70} print("Pieces of Hate:") for i,v in ipairs(t) do print(i,s[i],":",C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(84700+v)) end

Full solutions are in the sections below. Click on names in the Machine/Note column to go directly to them.

No Violence, Please

At the base of the entry stairs find a chest, console, and a "No Violence, Please" note on the wall next to it. Remove any equipped weapons and run the command /console violencelevel 0 and a ghostly version of  [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker] appears. Thunderfury's item id is 19019, which unlocks the chest next to it.

Here #1

In the south connecting hall (room #1) before the stairs to the north, find a console, chest, and the note "Here". With coordinate addons enabled, Here is at [56, 61], so enter 5661.

Here #2

In the southwest connecting room (room #3) on the north wall is another chest and console and another "Here" note pinned to the wall. This time the code is the zone ID for Karazhan Catacombs: 10638. Additional valid IDs are 1533, 3457, or 8265.

Ko'nani's property

When asked about the "Property of Elder Ko'nani" in the moonkin room, Elder Ko'nani at [48.0, 74.9] at Moa'ki Harbor in Dragonblight has this to say:

Gossip If you had a secret cache somewhere, what would be the code to unlock it?

O-ho, it has been a long time since I have needed such a code. I remember it being some famous sequence of dance steps or something.

Ko'nani refers to the Konami code (↑↑↓↓←→←→) which is expressed on a numpad as 88224646.

Encrypted Puzzle Box (Room 430)

The room behind Door 430 (room #5) contains an Encrypted Puzzle Box and a Decryption Console along the south wall. The room is filled with floor tiles from Guo-Lai Halls (among other places) in Pandaria. Also, next to the Decryption Console itself is a cloud tile that launches players into the damaging tiles if they input a bad entry.

In either phase of Vale of Eternal Blossoms, enter the Guo-Lai Halls at [22.4, 26.8] and head down the stairs. Don't enter the Hall of Tiles, but instead take a left heading west into the Hall of Statues. In the Mists of Pandaria phase, use the Deactivate Spirit Wall doodads at [36.4, 36.6] and [23.1, 29.0] to open the wall blocking the north exit at [32.2, 23.3]. Trigger the Deactivate Final Spirit Wall orb at [41.6, 18.7] in the final room and climb the stairs to find a book at [47.1, 25.8] that is named 17112317. Interact with it, then return to the instance. Key 17112317 into the console and loot the Piece of Hate from the puzzle box. The objectID of the 17112317 book is 466478, which is in Ratts' Handwritten Note, also in the 430 room.

In the Battle for Azeroth phase, Guo-Lai Halls does not have its own map, and the goggles will show up at [19.7, 6.5] in terms of Vale of Eternal Blossoms coordinates, but at the same spot as the Mists phase.

This was the ninth and final piece of hate code to be solved, at 12:52 PDT on 21 November, roughly 36 hours after getting to this point.

Rubenstein's Safe

Upstairs in the north connecting hall (room #6) is a console on top of Rubenstein's Safe. There are three juggling torches on the ground nearby. Rubenstein's Revenge is a juggling pattern that uses the siteswap 52233. Coincidentally, Linken's N [32-35 Daily] The Protectors of Hyjal appearance NPC ID is also 52233.

Handwritten Note

Also in the connecting hall in the southeast corner is another chest/console combo, and the Handwritten Note, which can now be read:

This leads to 51567 for this console.

Feeling Lucky

In the felcycle room (room #8) are 17 "Feeling Lucky?" Slot Machines. The goal is to input one lucky number with five heaps of luck. Any of a wide range of lucky numbers are accepted, in order to accommodate diverse cultural beliefs regarding luck, and any acceptable input will pop a magnifying glass when submitted. Valid codes include 777, 888, and 168.

Heaps of luck come from items with luck in their name, and five different sources are required. Most of the listed lucky items can be traded or sold on the auction house, (except the BoP Lucky Horseshoe, and the Lucky Duck toy). The coin will automatically appear in the player's bags and all the slot machines will disappear when the player fulfills the conditions.

In the northwest corner of the felcycle room by the vault door is the last console and chest, with the note "Hear" pinned above it. The Northsea Thug at the entrance drops a  [Nesingwary Lackey Ear]. Reset the  [Tricked-Out Thinking Cap] on the corpse and navigate to the console to reach coordinates (-1, 15). Enter code 115 to unlock the chest. Additionally, Ratts' Journal, Page 115 is in her room as a backup solution.

Players initially glitched this clue early on 20 November where 777 codes (from the Feeling Lucky? machines) worked until a hotfix around noon PDT forced the correct code.

4 o'clock: Doom

4 o'clock orb lit

Ratts' Torn Journal Entry (in room 430) reads:

How many years has it been since that fateful day? When so many heroes began their journeys on Azeroth... Bah, "heroes." Anyone can solve a problem that's right in front of them. It takes cleverness to solve the mysteries hidden from plain sight.

That fateful day is the original launch of WoW, 11/23/2004, and the mysteries hidden from plain sight are the numeric clue scraps that appeared all over the scenario. With the formula of (c × 301) mod 2004 (the inverse of (c × 11 × 23) mod 2004), the scraps decode to the ASCII values of "Bring Doom to Lights Tomb".

Vashti the Wandering Merchant had several new items added during Guest Relations. The  [Scroll of Fel Binding] sacrifices the nearest creature to summon a demon. The nearest creature is the player itself, and the summoned creature is a doomguard. Light's Tomb is Uther's Tomb at [52, 83] in the Western Plaguelands. Use the scroll there at the tomb to summon a doomguard. Don't kill it!

While the doomguard is active, four bits of red Hidden Graffiti are present on the ground in the tomb for alive players:

You think yourselves so clever I bet,

You adventurers are all the same

Let's see you beat the Master of Secrets

At our own twisted game.

Read them all to light the 4 o'clock orb. If done properly, tracking quest #84780 will be completed. Use this macro to check if all four graffiti were read:

/run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(84780))

This step was completed at 9:22 AM PST on 24 November.

5 o'clock: Muffin

5 o'clock orb lit

Completing this step requires lighting the 4 o'clock orb by interacting with the graffiti on the ground inside Uther's Tomb in the Western Plaguelands.

After lighting the 4 o'clock orb and while searching for something to do with the collected Pieces of Hate, players recalled the Pieces of Hate enemy in Plunderstorm, and checked in on Da'kash Grimledger who set up shop in the Roasted Ram inn of Valdrakken during the event. He has new gossip:

Gossip Do you trade in these Pieces of Hate?

Those? Hah! Those aren't real Pieces of Hate. What you got there is just pointless.

A character with "Pointless" in their name is Crend the Pointless in the Azure Span, a reference to the Youtuber wowcrendor. Crendor's "Pointless Top 10" videos always start with the statue on Janeiro's Point in Booty Bay, which shares a model with the Greed Statue in the felcycle room. Inside the broken left arm of the statue is the Pointless Treasure Salesman, hidden at [35.6, 63.5] in the back. The salesman will trade a  [Relic of Crystal Connections] for 9x  [Piece of Hate] and one  [Golden Muffin].

Searching for muffins, players also recalled the Feasel the Muffin Thief rare at Prophet's Reflection in Eredath on Argus. The marsuul started dropping a [Timeless Coin] from Timeless Isle in Pandaria. Jeremy "Muffinus" Feasel, <Master Pet Tamer>, makes a new appearance in the back of the Cavern of Lost Spirits on Timeless Isle, but only when accompanied by Zarhym, who is located at [53.7, 57.1] in the entrance to the cave. Speak with Zarhym to enter the Spirit World, then DO NOT LOOT ANY CHESTS. If players do manage to lock themselves out from Zarhym by looting a chest or taking the head to his body, interact with the Ghostly Brazier on the entry stairs of Ratts' Revenge to reset the Zarhym Altogether vignette.

Stay out of the areas marked by the Timeless Spirits, and find Jeremy at [39.5, 39.1] in the back of the cave. If players get caught, they can return to Zarhym to try again, though it may take a relog. While in Jeremy's vicinity, he invisibly buffs players to keep them in the Spirit World phase. Speak with Jeremy to start a pet battle:

It's true, I hide here when the faire is out of town. There's just something wonderful about this place.

Care to battle?

Gossip I'm ready.

Jeremy's party is the same as it is for N [1-80 Daily] Darkmoon Pet Battle!, but here they are level 25 and do not scale down. Defeat Jeremy using a party of only secret level 25 battle pets. An  [Ultimate Battle-Training Stone], sold for 35x  [Polished Pet Charm] by most battle pet NPCs like Erani at [58.5, 64.9] in Dornogal, will raise any battle pet to level 25. Get pet charms from Pet Battle world quests and one-time-per-character containers. A suggested easily-gathered party is  [Spyragos], Terky ( [White Murloc Egg]), and the Wicker Pup ( [Spooky Bundle of Sticks]). If using the Wicker Pup, make sure it's upgraded to rare quality by using a  [Marked Flawless Battle-Stone] for 15x  [Polished Pet Charm] on it.

The full list of valid pets is:

Note that  [Baa'lial Soulstone] from the Diablo promotion does not count.

If using the suggested party, this sequence should work, though there is some RNG involved:

Spyragos
  1. [Flame Breath]
  2. [Chain Lightning]
  3. [Flame Breath] (until Judgment dies)
  4. [Deep Freeze] (if Spyragos is still alive)
Terky
  1. [Flank]
  2. [Stampede] (repeat until dead)
Wicker Pup
  1. [Barkskin]
  2. [Shadow Slash] x2
  3. [Consume Corpse]
  4. [Shadow Slash]
  5. [Barkskin]
  6. [Consume Corpse]
  7. [Shadow Slash] (until dead)

After defeating Jeremy properly, he starts N [10-80] Master of Secrets, which awards the  [Golden Muffin]. "Properly" includes not ending the battle in a tie or with an undead pet in the revived state. Take the muffin to the Pointless Treasure Salesman at Janeiro's Point in Booty Bay to buy the  [Relic of Crystal Connections], which can be used to enter the humming crystal room of the scenario.

This step was completed at 9:43 AM PST on 24 November.

6 o'clock: Altars

6 o'clock orb lit

Completing this step requires winning the pet battle for 5 o'clock and getting the  [Golden Muffin] as well as the 1 o'clock orb.

Use the  [Relic of Crystal Connections] with the purple Humming Crystal targeted inside to phase through the gate to enter the Humming Crystal room. Inside, among the many other objects is the book Zul'Gurub and the Altars of Acquisition. It doesn't have text, but it doesn't need any. Navigate to [78, 45] in the open-world version of Zul'Gurub in Northern Stranglethorn to find five altars. Each altar needs a specific set of pets, toys, transmog, and/or mounts out with the  [Torch of Pyrreth]. If correct, an emote will appear:

The spirit departs, satisfied with your acquisitions.

If any enough players concurrently have the required items out, all other players (with their torches out!) nearby will also get credit. One item from each category (mounts, pets, etc.) must be present. Doubling up on pets or toys will not work.

Blood [77.1, 46.3]
Corrupt [77.5, 43.9]
Lust [77.0, 44.9]
Sin [78.2, 44.0]
Void [78.1, 46.3]

After completing all five altars (and the 5 o'clock orb!), a spectral Chest of Acquisitions will appear at [78.1, 47.7] at the southern edge of the area. It contains the  [Ancient Shaman Blood]. Loot it for the 6 o'clock orb, and the blood will be used later on the Enigma Machine in the north connecting hall.

Use this macro to check progress:

/run for i,a in ipairs({"Sin","Corrupt","Succubus","Blood","Void","Chest"})do print(a,C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(84805+i))end

This step was completed around 12:30 PST on 24 November.

7 o'clock: Watchers

7 o'clock orb lit

Completing this step requires winning the pet battle for 5 o'clock and getting the  [Golden Muffin] as well as the 1 o'clock orb.

Use the  [Relic of Crystal Connections] with the purple Humming Crystal targeted inside to phase through the gate to enter the Humming Crystal room. Inside, among the many other objects is the book Abridged Highlights of My Notes on the Owl Watchers and many volumes of The Mystery of the Owl Watchers.

Start by acquiring a  [Fledgling Warden Owl] battle pet (requires revered with the The Wardens, or a crated version from the Auction House), then head to the Isle of the Watchers off the southern coast of Azsuna on the Broken Isles with the fledgling out. Look for Owl of the Watchers statues all over the island. Only three will be active on any shard, and the active owls will rotate, so if the "You can't do that yet." message appears, ignore that statue for now and look for the others.

Watcher statue locations

The statues are at [44.2, 72.4], [40.5, 73.2], [40.5, 75.2], [37.1, 82.2], [43.3, 85.3], [43.6, 87.5], [50.5, 91.7], [47.5, 84.7], and [46.0, 84.1].

At an active statue, stand at it with the fledgling out until the magnifying glass and sound effect both appear. One of each color (red, blue, green, and purple) must be applied to the fledgling. Once all four buffs have been applied, the fledgling will have a white/purple orb over its head permanently. Enter the Vault of the Wardens solo at [48.1, 82.1] on any difficulty (normal is preferred to avoid getting locked into Cordana's room), keep the fledgling out, and defeat the first boss encounter, Tirathon Saltheril. This opens a secret room at [19, 78] that has four orbs circling around. Confirm that they're present, then take the elevator down to the second floor and defeat Inquisitor Tormentorum, Ash'Golm, and Glazer.

Head down the elevator to the lower floor and pick up the Glowing Sentry before heading south to face Cordana Felsong. The orb allows players to attack the enemies (namely the Spirit of Vengeance that guards the final door!) on the way. Pick up the orb on Cordana's platform, then defeat her. Take the orb back up two elevators to the hidden room before Tirathon. If everything was done correctly up to this point, a  [Sentry Statue] appears in the center of the hidden room. Loot the statue then return to Glazer's room. Place it on the flat floor west of the stairs to the boss arena.

Interact with the Sentry to start the puzzle:

The sentry hums with arcane energies as indecipherable elfish runes dance faintly across the surface of its lens. There is one talon that glows faintly.

Gossip Prepare the start up sequence.

This triggers tracking quest 84916. A number of statues will appear out of the squares. At this point, other players can join the party to get credit.

The goal is to have all statues submerged in the floor. This is a 5×5 Lights Out puzzle variant, with the added complication that the four linked statues aren't adjacent to each other. This is a much harder variant of the world quest N [45D WQ] Vault of the Wardens: Startup Sequence. Each statue is linked with four others, and clicking on one statue will cause the linked statues to sink or rise. Find the correct pattern to hide them all. Resetting the puzzle will scramble the links! Online solvers like Watcher Solver or in-game addons like StatueSolver can help.

To reset the puzzle, interact with the Sentry again:

A second talon flashes intermittently; but the sentry is otherwise inactive. It is as though it waits for some outside input.

Gossip Shut down the start up sequence.

With all 25 lenses hidden, the Treasure of the Wardens chest will appear where the Sentry Statue was placed. The Light of Elune and the buffed fledgling must be out to see the chest. Equip the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles] to see it. Loot the  [Warden's Mirror] to complete the puzzle and tracking quest 84823. This was completed around 11 AM PST on 24 November.

8 o'clock: Enigma

8 o'clock orb lit

After completing 6 and 7 o'clock, the Enigma Machine at [59.9, 43.0] in the north hall has two new gossip options, asking for the 6 o'clock and 7 o'clock items:

Gossip <Fill the arcane catalyzer with ancient shaman blood.>
Gossip <Insert the Warden's Mirror into the lightbox.>

Using the  [Ancient Shaman Blood] triggers quest 84829, and the  [Warden's Mirror] triggers quest 84830. With both items added, the Enigma Machine has new gossip:

<The contraption hums with energy. There appears to be <3/2/1> locked mechanisms.>

Gossip <Pull the "BEGIN" lever.>
Gossip <Pull the "SUBMIT" lever.>

The process, in short:

  1. Pull the BEGIN lever
  2. Pull the SUBMIT lever (spawns Rats)
  3. Kill (but don't count) all Catacomb Rats dungeon-wide
  4. Count and kill all regular Rats dungeon-wide
  5. Move statues to the correct plate using the Lock 1 column
  6. Pull the SUBMIT lever
  7. Remove statues from plate
  8. Repeat steps 3-7 for locks #2 and #3 using their columns

The process, in long: Start by resetting the instance (exit the dungeon, right-click the player frame, choose "Reset all instances"). Return to the Enigma Machine and pull the BEGIN lever and an emote appears: The dungeon echoes with the sound of mechanisms resetting. Do not pull the BEGIN lever again, as this will reset the puzzle. Then pull the SUBMIT lever. This spawns a bunch of rat critters, not to be confused with the existing Catacomb Rats. Turn on Esc -> Options -> Interface -> Critters and Companions to help find them. Look across the whole instance to count rats, including in the humming crystal, moonkin, and 430 rooms, then KILL ALL RATS so they don't accidentally run over a pressure plate!

A useful macro to find rats is:

/target Rat
/run SetRaidTarget("target",8)
/cleartarget [help]
/stopmacro [noexists][dead]
/ping [@target]

Players can calculate the number of statues to place on specific pressure plates using the formula x = (rats × lock) mod 20. The 20 part comes from the OUT OF ORDER note pinned to the machine. Then, x mod 7 is the plate, and x ÷ 7 (round up) statues go on that plate. For example, on lock #3, 10 rats appeared. x = (10 × 3) mod 20 = 10. 10 mod 7 is 3, and 10 ÷ 7 is 2 (when rounded up), so 2 statues on plate 3.

The plate numbers are arranged on the face of a clock centered on the enigma machine. The pressure plates will also show different colors based on the number of entities on them: 1 - Blue, 2 - Green, 3 - Yellow, 4 - Orange, 5 - Purple. Finally, the enigma machine will say how many locks are remaining. The number of locks was reduced from seven locks to three on 3 December.

If players don't want to do the math, after counting (and killing) all the rat critters, line them up with the table below for the active lock. For example, if 8 rats are present for the first lock, drag two statues to plate one. Then, after pulling the submit lever and getting the You hear a mechanism unlock emote, count rats again. Move all statues off the plate. This time, if 2 rats turn up, put one statue on P4 as this is the second lock. Pull the submit lever again and repeat. If an incorrect number of statues was placed, the player will get zapped and will have to start over from the first lock.

To reach plate 3 with a statue in tow, drag it to the Humming Crystal gate, target the purple Humming Crystal inside the room, then use the  [Relic of Crystal Connections] to port in. The statue will tag along. Exit the room by repeating the process with the green crystal above the gate outside.

If successful for all locks, the A great lock has been released emote appears and the 8 o'clock orb will light up, completing tracking quest 84837. Additionally, the Enigma Machine says:

<The contraption appears inert. All mechanisms are unlocked.>

The solution was confirmed at 18:27 PST on 25 November.

9 o'clock: Vault

9 o'clock orb lit

Solving the 8 o'clock orb made a few changes, notably that the Enigmatic Door in the felcycle room has been unlocked, leading into the vault room. It contains a new book, Ratts' Journal: The Final Chapter? that reads:

In catacombs with dusty pages
As paladins or rogues or mages
Through all the wars that never cease
In search of hope
In search of peace
For all the journeys, in any weather,
For adventures yet to come together
The final key is why I stay:
For you...
For Azeroth...

This, alongside most lines of the Cryptic Plaque (above the door to the vault room) led to Ratts' Lair at [56, 18] in the bottom of Pillar-nest Vosh in Azj-Kahet:

To be like me, you need to know: (To get Ratts' motorcycle)
The missing rhyme (FOR THE LOVE OF PLAY, left out of the final chapter)
The crystal's glow (Relic of Crystal Connections, needed to reach the final console)
The stars above (Starry Eyed Goggles, needed to reach the final console)
The space below (Location of the final console)
The time of now for long ago (11/23/2024, the 20th anniversary date)

JYPFFQVY

At that location (where players first confronted Ratts during N [30-80] Ratts' Race), the Encryption Device on the astral platform can be grappled up to with the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles] and the  [Relic of Crystal Connections]. Nearby, and visible without the goggles, are candles: 11 floating and 23 on the ground.

Parallel to this, the Torch of Pyrreth activates the naga portal on the north wall. Another copy of that portal is at [32.2, 83.8] at Nazj'vel in southern Darkshore, where naga enemies started dropping new items, but only while the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles] are active:  [Indecipherable Pages],  [Indecipherable Plans],  [Sandshift Relic], and  [Sand Shifter]. These were confirmed as hints by the developer, but further goals are unknown.

Additionally, following the naga association, a set of 24 twinkling stars were found at [78, 21] under an overturned boat in the Eye of Azshara, spelling the letters VIG. Nearby, a pile of debris sparkles. Developer commentary confirmed that this was the only remaining hint to be discovered, and that the "VIG" message is the same in all locales.

After a hotfix on 9 December, several changes were made:

  • All pages of Ratts' Journal now sparkle, as does The Hidden Zeroth Letter of the Alphabet and Other Mysteries of Linguistic Mathematics with the  [Starry-Eyed Goggles] equipped
  • Eight  [Starry-Eyed Goggles]-only reversed objects appear above the Cryptic Plaque, which is also sparkling
  • A cake is resting on the hourglass in the vault room, sparkling as well
  • The code 11232024 and regional equivalents at the Ratts' Lair console in Azj-Kahet now provide appropriate feedback: three ??? over the player's head

On 11 December at 1:52 PM PST, the solution was found:

  1. Shift code by anniversary date
  2. Shift code by missing rhyme (wrap it around because the rhyme is twice as long as the code)
  3. Interpret the letters as numbers

This leads to the code 84847078. Enter the code then loot the chest to pick up the felcycle!

The logic works like this, using multiple rounds of the Vigenère cipher:

Plaque Vigenère cipher
Step Letters Notes
0 J Y P F F Q V Y Cryptic Plaque code
1 10 25 16 6 6 17 22 25 Alphabet order (A=1, B=2)
2 1 1 2 3 2 0 2 4 20th anniversary (11/23/2024)
3 9 24 14 3 4 17 20 21 Step 1 minus step 2
F O R T H E L O First half of rhyme
4 6 15 18 20 8 5 12 15 Alphabet order (A=1, B=2)
5 3 9 -4 -17 -4 12 8 6 Step 3 minus step 4
V E O F P L A Y Second half of rhyme
6 22 5 15 6 16 12 1 25 Alphabet order (A=1, B=2)
7 -19 4 -19 -23 -20 0 7 19 Step 5 minus step 6
8 8 4 8 4 7 0 7 8 Step 7 modulo 27

This results in the 84847078 code for the console. When parsed as four bytes, the values 84 84 70 78 are the ASCII values of TTFN, or "ta ta for now".

Override Sequence

After acquiring the keys, players mounted on the felcycle noted an [Override Sequence] button in their Spellbook, much like the Number Sequence button used for the 3 o'clock decryption consoles.

Three codes are known:

  • 17 — shoots off fireworks
  • 418 — drops a Brightly Colored Egg
  • 2104059 — The felcycle's engine sputters with a demonic whisper that you can barely comprehend. "Free her from her prison umbral."

The third code was added during patch 11.2.7 as part of the updated Uuna secret. The code is the first Inconspicuous Note for the Riddle of the Lucid Nightmare.

Blue post

On 8 November, Blizzard made a post regarding the secret finding in process:

A Message for Secret Hunters | 2024-11-08 23:02 | Blizzard Entertainment Kaivax

Some players have recently noticed that there are a few oddities around, and things aren't quite adding up.

When it comes to secret hunting, we suggest you keep the following in mind:

  • There are no class or race restrictions – any character can solve secrets.
  • Addons are not required – all secrets are solvable without addons.
  • There are no time restrictions – once a secret has been released, it will remain available to solve (with the exception of "Guest Relations" quests from Alyx – these are only available during WoW's Anniversary).
  • Purchases are not required – these secrets don't require shop items or services.
  • Bannable behavior is not required (or allowed!) – anything that could result in account suspension, such as hacks and exploiting glitches, are not required to solve secrets and appropriate action will be taken against cheaters.
  • Secrets are tough, but fair – everything you need to solve Azeroth's mysteries is available to you.

Please solve mysteries at your own pace. Some secrets will be extremely challenging compared to other content. Please take your time and have fun with it!

Good luck secret hunters!

P.S. For the diligent explorers who have already found a key item, you may have missed the clue that would lead you there! It might be fun to find, if you were so inclined.

The P.S. is an oblique reference to the  [Inert Peculiar Key], which was found accidentally on 4 November. The PS led players to find the clue pointing to the key in Transborea of the Borean Tundra.

An additional post was made on 11 November:

A Message for Secret Hunters | 2024-11-11 21:07 | Blizzard Entertainment Linxy

Great job so far, eager secret hunters! The next step (and the rest of this secret) will become available on November 19. In the meantime, Alyx still needs your help.

The November 19 time gate is acquiring the <Detective> title from  [Azeroth's Greatest Detective], which allowed players to pick up N [30-80] Ratts' Race from the Dalaran Survivor in Dornogal.

On 20 November, they added to the thread:

A Message for Secret Hunters | 2024-11-20 21:12 | Blizzard Entertainment Kaivax

The following will appear in our next Hotfixes Update, and we believe some players might appreciate a heads up here and now.

With hotfixes that are now live:

Ratts' Revenge

  • Fixed an issue where statues would follow you without a rope.
  • Fixed an issue where the "Hear" puzzle could be solved by an unintended bug. Characters who already received the reward for this puzzle will keep their progress, but other characters will need to figure out the intended solution.
  • Ratts' password is now present.
  • The "Light of Love" is now more accepting.

An additional thought–

Along with "Hear", the "No Violence" puzzle has been solved in an unintended way. It may be fun to figure out what really solves these steps.

In addition to these posts on the official forums, the principal developer of the Felcycle secret took an active role in clarifying his design intent and answering community questions in the WoW Secret Finding Discord, particularly in a new channel dedicated specifically to that purpose.
