Karynaku is the broodmother and matriarch of the Netherwing dragonflight, mate of its patriarch Neltharaku and mother of Mordenaku. Like all nether drakes, she is a descendant of the black dragonflight.
History
The Burning Crusade
By the time of the invasion of Outland, Karynaku was amongst the Netherwing that had been captured by Zuluhed the Whacked and the Dragonmaw clan, and imprisoned within Dragonmaw Fortress. She was held in place by chains, which sapped her powers preventing her from making her own escape.[1] Neltharaku lead the Netherwing in multiple attempts at freeing her, but they all ended in failure.[2]
Karynaku was not released when Ragnok Bloodreaver attacked the fortress because Zuluhed escaped and the chains were still strong.[3]
In time, her son Mordenaku was able to recruit adventurers to aid the Netherwing, where they worked with Neltharaku to liberate the enslaved Netherwing, before he sent them to personally free Karynaku. She subsequently informed them that the key to the chains trapping her was held by Zuluhed, himself. Knowing that Zuluhed awaited for her to break, to bend her to his will, she lured him to her by acting as though she had been broken. However, upon his arrival, he was confronted and killed by her allies. In the aftermath, she remarked on her freedom and declared that her allies had saved the Netherwing.[4]
She subsequently reunited with her family.[5]
Dragonflight
After the netherwing made their new home in Thaldraszus on the Dragon Isles on Azeroth, she relocated with her flight and could be seen sleeping at their new roost next to Neltharaku.
