So with the talent overhaul in Dragonflight, we naturally will need to make changes to our infobox. That's not generally a problem, though there may need to be a few decisions made about the specifics.

What IS a problem, though, is that this template is currently doing double duty supporting both the Classic and modern talent systems, in ways that aren't conducive to also supporting the Dragonflight system.

With that in mind, here is my proposal:

• Move Template:Infobox talent to Template:Infobox talent Classic to preserve the functionality for old talents. Use a bot to update the pages to point to the new name.
• Convert any talents from the modern system (that is, post-Cataclysm) to use Infobox Ability instead; there's literally no reason to use Infobox Talent for those when we can just make them passive abilities with an argument that displays "Talent" instead of "Ability."
• Create a new Infobox Talent template designed around the Dragonflight talents. This will probably be mostly a modification of the original template, but with some updates and removal of stuff that's no longer needed.

i'm for it :thumbsup: while i'm normally in favor of keeping to a smaller number of templates, starting a new template will allow us to tailor it to the dragonflight talents, with less code to wade through and no worry of breaking older pages Eithris (talk) 23:34, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

We also should probably update Template:Infobox ability to actually display what tier talented abilities are located in. That's a piece of information that appears natively when using Infobox Talent that doesn't show up at all in Infobox Ability. Actually, to add to this - Infobox Ability actually doesn't work well for any pre-MoP talent abilties. If you use |type=talent, but don't include a level (since they weren't level-based), you get "Level - Class Talent." This all sounds good. Alternatively, we could just keep the current "Infobox Talent" where its at for now and just create the Dragonflight-version at something like "Template:Talentbox". — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 02:53, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
