Rakera is a Zandalari troll who initially appears as one of the main supporting characters in Vol'dun with the title of Warguard Rakera. Later, she is promoted to General Rakera and fights against the Alliance.

Biography

Rakera was originally a commander in Zuldazar but was exiled to Vol'dun after she came close to proving that General Jakra'zet, a member of the Zanchuli Council, was a traitor to the crown.[1] She was part of a group consisting of a dozen other outcasts. One night, the exiles were attacked by assassins sent by Jakra'zet to search for Rakera. Though Rakera fought off the attackers[2] and saved the life of her fellow exile Jorak from Grozztok the Blackheart,[3] the survivors scattered into the desert. With no other options, Rakera decided to follow the advice of a rambling madman from her group who had talked of a temple in the south that welcomed exiles.[2][4]

Akunda the Forlorn at the Temple of Akunda.

Although Rakera told her subordinate Bladeguard Kaja not to come after her,[5] Kaja soon ventured into Vol'dun in search of her commander alongside her fellow bladeguards Jorana and Tarkaj as well as an adventurer of the Horde.[6] Kaja, the adventurer, and the vulpera Meerah eventually followed the lead provided by Rakera's journal and headed to the Temple of Akunda. Along the way, they also picked up Jorak, the troll whom Rakera had saved, as well as Rakera's shield.[7] Once at the temple, they discovered that Rakera had lost all of her memories[8] and became one of the followers of the loa Akunda under the name Akunda the Forlorn.[9] After the adventurer defeated Akunda the Exalted and freed the loa, Rakera's memories were restored and she informed Kaja and the adventurer that Jakra'zet's forces in Vol'dun were scouring the desert in search of a powerful weapon capable of destroying Zuldazar.[5]

The group continued to the ruined city of Zul'Ahjin to meet up with Julwaba, an old friend of Rakera who willingly traveled to Vol'dun to gain knowledge of the past, and whom Rakera hoped would have knowledge of the weapon. Despite an attack from Jakra'zet's assassins along the way,[10] the group made it to Zul'Ahjin and encountered the vulpera Kiro and Nisha, as well as Julwaba and her friend Serrik, a sethrak who was dying from scorpashi venom.[11] After Kiro and the adventurer saved Serrik with antivenom, the champion traveled into Zul'Ahjin and discovered a special stone. At Serrik's urging, the adventurer, Rakera, and Kaja accompanied him to the Sanctuary of the Devoted to deliver the stone to Vorrik.[12] Vorrik explained to the hero, Rakera, and Kaja the history of how Sethraliss defeated Mythrax and how the Keepers Vorrik, Korthek, and Sulthis created three keystones to keep Mythrax entombed within Atul'Aman. Rakera realized that Mythrax must be the weapon that Jakra'zet was searching for.[13]

Shortly after, Vorrik and the adventurer left to confront the Faithless emperor Korthek directly. Vorrik asked Rakera and Kaja to protect his and Sulthis' keystones while he was away, and they promised to protect Vorrik's people like their own.[14] Vorrik, the hero, and their vulpera allies ultimately managed to defeat Korthek, but meanwhile, Jakra'zet and his troops attacked the Sanctuary of the Devoted and stole the keystones.[15][16] Kaja and Rakera pursued the general into the crypts below Atul'Aman[17] but they both ended up being ensnared by tentacles in the Fetid Crypt below the pyramid. Vorrik and the adventurer eventually caught up with and freed the two Zandalari.[18] The group then confronted Jakra'zet deeper in the crypt. After a battle, the general was mortally wounded, and Rakera told Kaja to give him a clean death. However, before the bladeguard had a chance to kill Jakra'zet, he instead leapt into the nearby pit, killing himself and providing the final blood sacrifice needed to resurrect Mythrax. The group barely escaped Atul'Aman with their lives.[19] After making it back to the Sanctuary of the Devoted, Rakera stated that she would inform Princess Talanji of the events that have transpired in Vol'dun and the new threat the Zandalari now face, and urged the adventurer to do the same with the Horde.[20]

When Zul, Mythrax, and their armies attacked Zuldazar, Rakera urgently asked Meerah to transport her, Kaja, Akunda, and Kimbul to the city. During the battle, Rakera commanded a small force of the royal guard as they held off invading sethrak at the Zocalo. Shortly after, she accompanied Talanji through the streets before assisting the Zandalari force in holding off Mythrax while the adventurer and King Rastakhan went to confront Zul.[21]

Tides of Vengeance

As Warguard Rakera

When word reached about the Alliance invading Nazmir and the Blood Gate, Rakera and a cadre of Zandalari Warriors were found training on the bridge on Kingsmouth River in Zuldazar. The Speaker of the Horde asked her to mobilize her troops to fight against the invaders.[22]

Rakera was present in Dazar'alor when the Alliance invaded it. She fought against Dark Iron Vanguards in the Zocalo.

After the death of Rastakhan and Talanji's ascension to queen, Rakera joined the Zanchuli Council, replacing Jakra'zet as the General of the Zandalari army.
